Media NOLA branding Concepts

MediaNOLA is a web portal for the collection and presentation of histories of cultural production in New Orleans. This site encourages the preservation of collective memory by bringing together archival resources with members of the public to produce and reflect on the city's depth of culture.

Led by project director Dr. Vicki Mayer, MediaNOLA relies on the collaboration of Tulane students, programmers, archivists, and staff working with archivists and nonprofit organizations around the city.

New Orleans is widely known for its rich culture, eccentricity, and creative energy. The city embraces all forms of creative expression - from the culinary arts to music to architecture.

The proposed logo concepts focus on the project's central themes of collaboration, progression, and the development of cultural history.

Referencing a major musical instrument like the piano speaks not only to MediaNOLA's focus on New Orleans culture, but it also references the instrument's versatility and therefore the diversity of culture associated with it.

Additionally, the piano logo's visual hierarchy was meant to directly reference MediaNOLA's focus on refinement. Beyond the obvious image of piano keys, these logos may also refer to a simple representation of progress or an abstraction of books on a shelf.

The alternative folding logo concept takes a less culturally-focussed approach. Instead, it further emphasizes MediaNOLA's concentration on collaboration and the progress of culture and history.
